Cedit Card Statements

March 7th, 2010

Why do the company names on Credit Card statements often bear little or no resemblance to the name of the place you purchased an item from? I realise that some companies trade under different names from their registered name, but if they are known as company XYZ and you get an item on your statement for company ABC, you end up spending ages racking your brain and referring to you diary to try to work out what on earth it could be. Often the transaction has been processed interstate which gives you even less idea where you purchased the item.

Today we got one listed as “SOUTH AUSTRALIAN WAT ADELAIDE”. In this case, the only thing of interest that might tell me what the purchase was has been abbreviated to “WAT”. It could be an abbreviation (for example, We Are Tossers Pty. Ltd.), but it this case it was short for “Water”. What on earth were these idiots thinking? Why not “SA WATER ADELAIDE” which is 100% clear?

Maybe we should just refuse to pay for items which are not clearly identified!
